Pursuant to Title 49, United States Code, § 47106(c)(1)(A), notice is hereby given that Clark County, Nevada proposes to build and operate the Southern Nevada Regional Heliport (Heliport) south of Sloan, Nevada immediately east of Interstate Highway 15. The Clark County Department of Aviation (CCDOA) is requesting public input on the Draft Environmental Assessment (Draft EA) for the construction and operation of the Heliport and associated utilities. The Draft EA discloses the potential economic, social, and environmental impacts of the proposed development. The proposed build alternative (referred to as the South of Sloan site) is located east of Interstate 15 and Las Vegas Boulevard South, approximately 5.5 miles south of St. Rose Parkway (a portion of Assessor Parcel No. 204-01-000-004). The development of the Heliport as proposed would provide a facility that would satisfy existing and future needs of the Grand Canyon air tour helicopter operators in a manner that is compatible with the urbanized development in Clark County. Such development includes, but is not limited to: site preparation; grading and installation of drainage facilities; and paving, marking and lighting of helicopter parking areas, taxiways and four Final Approach and Takeoff Areas. The proposed Heliport will accommodate approximately 80 based helicopters with expansion capability for additional helicopters. The Heliport, if constructed, should provide some relief to existing residential neighborhoods of the Las Vegas Valley currently overflown by commercial helicopters providing tours of the Grand Canyon which originate at McCarran international Airport. A Public Information Workshop will be hosted on Thursday, May 1, 2008, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Pacific Daylight Time, at the Clark County Government Center, Cafeteria, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, Las Vegas, NV. Members of the public are invited to attend the workshop to obtain additional information and to ask questions regarding the proposed Heliport. A formal Public Hearing on the Draft EA will be held during the Clark County Board of Commissioners’ regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at 10:00 AM, at the Clark County Government Center, Commission Chambers, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, Las Vegas, NV. Oral and written comments will be accepted at the Public Hearing. The Draft EA is available for public review during normal business hours at the following locations: Aliante Library 2400 Deer Springs Wy.
